This Just In!: Big Drop from Thriving Ink
Posted September 26, 2010on:
Matt of Thriving Ink was kind enough to hook me up with one of his new tees called “Big Drop,” so here’s a review of it.
If you didn’t know, Matt recently took over the family business and has completely rebranded the shop. I am very impressed by the new products, and I’m extremely glad that the store is heading in its current direction. All of the designs are simple and clean, making the products extra sexy (there really isn’t another adjective to use).
To my knowledge, all of the products are printed using direct-to-garment (DTG) printing, which is basically a giant printer laying down ink on the fabric. Never having owned a DTG shirt, I have been apprehensive of the results. However, after seeing “Big Drop” in person, I have been pleasantly surprised! Since the shirt is very soft, the DTG ink compliments it well. The print is lightweight, just like the shirt fabric. I threw this shirt in the washer and dryer, and the design still looks just as great as it did when it came in the mail.
The inside of the shirt has a printed care tag. Some of the text is difficult to read, but that’s not really an issue. I was, however, surprised that the tag says the shirt is printed on 100% combed cotton. I assume that this is the inside tag used for all other size small shirts, but this t-shirt is printed on American Apparel Tri-Blend, so it’s actually 50% polyester/25% cotton/25% rayon. Just thought I’d point that out, even though it doesn’t seem to make a difference in how you wash it.
So while I’m on the topic of it being AA Tri-Blend, I’ll describe to you how the shirt feels. The fabric is thinner and the shirt is very lightweight in comparison to the AA fine jersey short sleeve shirts. Despite having the same cut, the Tri-Blend tee has a slightly different fit, as the fabric is a lot more flexible and basically drapes over you.
Thriving Ink t-shirts each feature a hand-sewn tag on the bottom left side of the shirt. The front of the tag shows the drop logo, while the inside says “ti.” I definitely love this little addition. This small detail makes the shirts that much more professional looking, in my opinion.
All in all, I’m impressed by this Thriving Ink product. If you’d like to see how awesome it really is in person, then head over to Thriving Ink to pick up “Big Drop” for $21.95. You can save an additional 15% on your order with the code LOVINGTHISTEE.
